Here are some useful hints we have used with our own projects:

Parents:

These are basically master templates you can apply to different pages by simply dragging them around and keeping all the formatting consistent. Check out the Adobe info here.

Data-merging:

A Data Merge is a great tool for populating formatted templates from external data. It’s great for repetitive things such as business cards and labels etc.

This is a tutorial on changing colours and styles from Data merge entries. It’s best to follow it all in order. I found the “How this technique works” section is the key step to making it work.
