Project Title

The brief or scope of this project was to create a storage box for a child in which the parents and eventually themselves could store life event trinkets and objects. These could include special photos, art, first haircut pieces, certificates, etc.
The construction was desired to be out of wood and have a woodland theme.

As the child’s name is Alice, there is an element of inspiration from “Alice in Wonderland”.

Some design considerations were that it had to be robust enough to last a long time, fit the theme, and be a functional and closable storage box.

The end result of the design was chosen to be challenging to make, visually different and rounded to be safe for a small child.

Dovetailing was chosen for the primary panel jointing method connecting to round corner posts with internal dovetail sockets. Wood glue was used for a permanent bond.

Using the rounded corner posts also created a castle-like look which fitted the theme.

My Favourite part was the brass in inlay of the tree which raps around the front of the box.
