Portal Gun pew pew
I like the game Portal 2 and was invited to a costume party (which I didn’t even go to in the end lol)
I 3D printed, sanded, and spray painted (at home in my garage). Jamie helped me out with the electronics so we could make it light up and react to the buttons being triggered.
Processes Used: 3D Printing, Sanding and Finishing, Soldering, Programming
Time Taken: 2 Weeks
Difficulty: Printing and finishing was easy but the programming was hard
The Process

Files from Thingiverse
Here are the files and the instructions from EVARATE. The files are free to use. We ended up changing all of the electronics.

Start printing
I used the Prusa XLs because of their superior bed size. To keep it free, I used only spare material we had, hence the weird banding.

Cleaning my prints
I used the tool from the main island in the lab to pry off the supports. I should have worn gloves.

Sanding
I needed more time to get it finished right. I used a coarse sand paper and slowly moved my way up to finer grit sandpaper.

Assembly
I used hot glue in the areas you wouldn’t see and super glue for the smaller sections. The model also called for screws so some areas are fastened together.

Painting
We don’t allow aerosol paint in the lab. I took my pieces home and sprayed them in our garage. I used about 3 coats and waited 3 hours between coats. I don’t have a photo so here’s the character photo.

Electronics
I needed Jamie’s help for this one, by the end of the project I could easily solder but still fumbled with components.

Programming
Bless the gods for Jamie, he basically did it all. I tried to help, I really did….
