Vinyl/Sticker Cutter

Roland BN-20

We have a great machine that can print and cut vinyl stickers and transfers. The machine is called the Roland BN-20 and uses inkjet printing and a drag-knife type cutting head to both print and cut out your artwork designs.

Ideally you will use vector graphics software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape for your artwork.

To use this machine please get in touch with our technicians, you will need to have your artwork ready beforehand.

How to Set Up Your Files

File Set Up
  • Width: 465mm
  • Height: Customisable
  • Colour Mode: CMYK
Laying Out Your Artwork

Printing uses the whole width of the roll so place your designs along the entire width of the canvas (as pictured).

Printing Multiples of 1 Image

If you are printing 1 artwork multiple times, you can send us just the artwork with the cut lines. Our software can automatically layout your artwork to get the most out of the roll.

Roland BN-20 Swatch/Cutting Out Your Artworks

Click on the red button below to download the Roland Swatches.

The machine reads the pink “CutContour” swatch as cut. In order to cut out your artworks you will need to have a pink outline around them.

❗YOU MUST USE THE SWATCH COLOURS
❗HEX COLOURS DO NOT WORK

Have You Checked?
  • Check that all text has been turned into “Outlines”
    • This is because you may use custom fonts that we don’t have on our computers
  • Check that all images are embedded
    • If you do not then your images will be “unlinked” meaning they will either not appear or will be very low resolution
  • Check that the cut stroke is the same as the Roland BN20 Swatches
    • If it is not the exact swatch then your artwork will print with pink outlines and will not be cut out
  • Export out your file as a .EPS

  • Send us your file via designtech@auckland.ac.nz
Pricing

The cost of your job is estimated by the technicans after you send us your artwork. We charge a minimum of $5. You will pay via credits on the CAI Creative Store.

How to Permanently Save Out Swatches

If you expect to do lots of sticker cutting in the future, you can save the Roland Swatch for future use. See .Gif below for one way to do this.

    1. Open swatches
    2. “Swatch Library Menu”
    3. “Other Library”
    4. “Swatches” folder
    5. Drag vinyl swatches into “Swatches” folder
